Milo Medin
Founder, Chairman, and CTO
Milo Medin is Founder, CTO and Chairman of M2Z’s Board of Directors. Together with his partner John Muleta, Mr. Medin founded M2Z Networks in 2005.
Prior to founding M2Z Networks, Mr. Medin was co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of @Home Networks which pioneered the deployment of a nationwide cable modem services. As CTO of @Home, Mr. Medin designed the broadband service architecture and helped revolutionize broadband access by working with cable carriers and equipment manufacturers to establish the technology standards for the industry.
Previously, Mr. Medin was a Project Manager at the NASA Ames Research Center. Mr. Medin directed the NASA National Research and Education Network project which in concert with the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, launched a core Federal network that connected 200 sites in 16 countries and 6 continents including Antarctica.
Mr. Medin began his technology career at Science Applications, Inc. where he programmed supercomputers for defense program activities at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Los Alamos National Laboratory, under contract to the Defense Nuclear Agency.
Renowned as an expert in network and communications technologies, Mr. Medin has participated in two National Academy of Sciences panels on telecommunications technology and policy. His expertise is frequently sought by government and State committees. In November 2006, Mr. Medin was named to California’s Broadband Task Force by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
John Muleta
CEO and Founder
John Muleta is Founder, CEO and Board Member of M2Z Networks. Together with his partner Milo Medin, Mr. Muleta founded M2Z Networks in 2005.
Immediately prior to founding M2Z Networks, Mr. Muleta was most recently partner and co-Chair of the Communications Practice at Venable LLP. Mr. Muleta has distinguished himself through dedicated service in two previous federal government career positions. Between 2003 and 2005, Mr. Muleta was the head of the Federal Communications Commission’s Wireless Telecommunications Bureau and responsible for implementing the Commission’s policies regarding consumer wireless services and public safety radio networks. Between 1994 and 1998, Mr. Muleta worked at Commission in the Common Carrier Bureau in several capacities including Deputy Bureau Chief of the Bureau and Chief of the Bureau’s Enforcement Division.
Mr. Muleta also has a distinguished private sector record as entrepreneur, most prominently serving as a senior officer of PSINet, Inc., a leading commercial Internet Services Provider. Mr. Muleta headed PSINet’s infrastructure provisioning organization that operated in 28 countries, he served as President of PSINet’s India, Middle East and Africa unit and also served as the President of PSINet Ventures, the company’s $160 million corporate venture unit.
In addition to M2Z Networks, Mr. Muleta serves as a Trustee at the University of Virginia, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and is on the Board of Directors of Fiber Tower (NASDAQ:FTWR) and on the Board of HRSmart, a privately held HR Application Services Provider (ASP) ranked as one of the fastest growing companies by Inc. Magazine. Additionally, Mr. Muleta serves on the advisory boards of PacketHop, Inc. and Visto, Inc., two innovative Silicon Valley companies. Mr. Muleta holds degrees in Engineering, Law and Business from the University of Virginia.
Bruce Sachs
Bruce Sachs joined Charles River Ventures as a general partner in 1999, bringing 20 years experience in the telecommunications, networking, Internet and computing industries. Mr. Sachs is a director of several private and public companies, including iControl, BigBand Networks, Celerica, Cedar Point Communications, Acopia Networks and Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq:VRTX). Previously, Mr. Sachs served on the boards of American Internet (acquired by Cisco Systems), C-Port (acquired by Motorola), Arrowpoint (Nasdaq:ARPT) and Media 100 (Nasdaq:MDEA).
Mr. Sachs led Charles River investments in Flarion Technologies (acquired by QUALCOMM), River Delta Networks (acquired by Motorola), and Hammerhead Networks (acquired by Cisco Systems), and served on all three boards. Prior to joining Charles River Ventures, Mr. Sachs served as executive vice president and general manager of Ascend’s (now Lucent Technologies, Nasdaq:LU) Carrier Signaling and Management Group. Mr. Sachs joined Ascend in October 1998 through its acquisition of Stratus Computer. At Stratus he served as president and CEO, repositioning the company through the integration of telecom software and services onto its traditional computing foundation.
Mr. Sachs started his career at AT&T Bell Laboratories and then served as a director of engineering at Memotec/Infinet. In 1989 he joined Xylogics as director of engineering and ultimately became CEO. Mr. Sachs led the company through a dramatic strategy and positioning reformulation, and in 1995, its acquisition by Bay Networks. He went on to serve as an executive vice president of Bay Networks (now a unit of Nortel Networks Nasdaq:NT), completing four acquisitions in his first year and enhancing the company’s position in key emerging telecommunications markets.
Mr. Sachs holds a master of engineering in electrical engineering from Cornell University, an MBA from Northeastern University and a BS in electrical engineering from Bucknell University
